Afghanistan is today living through difficult times, subsequent to the terrible terrorist attacks of New York.
The eyes of the Americans and the whole world are now riveted on Rome, the city of exile of His
Majesty King Mohammed Zaher Shah.

The former sovereign of Afghanistan is the only person who can bring peace, freedom and democracy to
Afghanistan.

At the time of Zaher Shah's reign, Afghanistan was a Parliamentary Monarchy experiencing ongoing
progress, and the people were free.

The women had the same rights as the men, particularly in education but also in politics.

The Afghans have yearned for the freedom of those days ever since.

During the 40 years of the enlightened monarchy of King Zaher Shah, Afghanistan had a strong, stable
economy and development, auguring well for future prosperity.

All this is no more, ever since the summer of 1979 when the King was deposed by his cousin Prince
Daoud, who then established a Republic, leading to the decline of Afghanistan.

Since the King was deposed, Afghanistan has endured unceasing civil war at the hands of the
Communists and then the Taliban.

The most fundamental human rights are no longer respected.

King Zaher Shah wishes to return to Afghanistan and hopefully restore Parliamentary Monarchy to
Afghanistan, as previously established by His Majesty.

Since 1979, the Afghan people have lived in hope that their King may someday return, and today they
hope the United States will help them to realise this wish.

My dear threads,

I spread this message on the eve of Ramadan. I call up to the unity of the Afghan people. Please, avoid the
vengeance and respect human rights.

Please, remain quiet and be patient. Very soon, I shall bring in to serve my country, not as sovereign, but as servant
of Afghanistan. The future of Afghanistan will be Loya Jirgah .

I invite you to unite, the people and the leaders of the different parties, with Loya Jirgah which will quickly be
convened and will carry to the government the representatives of Afghan people.

The political vote which will go out of it should be implemented.

I invite besides "seigneurs of the war" to observe the international rules concerning the war prisoners.

The persons who go should be respected.

I conclude with a prayer for the peace, the security and the integrity of Afghanistan.
